Living Room After

So, I've come to terms with the fact that no matter how hard I try, the pictures of the Little House will not look like it came off Miss Mustard Seed's blog.
Or The Lettered Cottage.
Or like it came out of Southern Living.

With that being said, we finally had enough of our dry-rotting linoleum.
So, we set out to find the same vinyl tiles we used in the bedrooms here and here.

Armstrong is the brand and you can only find them at Lowe's.
Apparently they are discontinuing that particular design.
We scowered the area and found a store that had enough.

Just a look of the journey...

Humble beginnings

Fresh painted walls and trim

Looking like our home...

With the new clean floors

Stinky Butt Buffy

After a few days of sitting, Buffy started rolling some eggs out from under her.
I guess Momma was a little too ambitious about how many she could sit on.
Momma said that Buffy must have started counting and decided she didn't want to tend to 20 chirping bitties.

Also, that crazy hen decided to sit on eggs during the hottest part of the summer.
There is no reasoning with a chicken.
They are quite daft creatures.

So, after 3 weeks of sitting on the eggs with minimum food and water intake, all Buffy had to show for her efforts were 17 rotten eggs and a stench that was embedded on her previously bare butt.

Food Show? Why Yes.

Last weekend I had the privilege of attending the Louisiana Food Expo in New Orleans.

I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Let's just say 'samples'.

Hello giant cow.

Bessy was our landmark.

Choot 'em?

A german chocolate brownie?
Yes.

We made a friend.  He gave us ice cream.

Hello, Handsome.

I've heard that there is a national food expo.
It is going on my bucket list.

Rocking Chair

Momma and Daddy bought us rocking chairs for our birthdays this year.

They came 'in the raw'.

I decided that it would be best to give them a distressed/old look instead of trying to do them perfect.
There are just too many small nooks and crannies.

As you can tell, I've only gotten one done.
It's so very hot around here.

I started by staining it a dark walnut.
Brush on and wipe off after a few minutes.

Then I realized the stain doesn't come off your hands, arms, and elbows with soap and water.
It said something about 'mineral spirits' well I had no clue what that was. Come to find out, it's paint thinner. However, hand-cleaner gets it right off.

Then I poured a little paint in some plates. A little white, a little country white, a little turquoise.

I used the turquoise from this box of kids paint.

I took my Purdy brush and barely tapped it into the turquoise paint and lightly and randomly brushed it on a couple places.
I went to work haphazardly painting with white and off white.
I barely had any paint on the brush at any given time.

I tried to imagine which areas would naturally been 'worn' more and tried to go lighter in those areas.

I believe I may do the other chair a little different. But it will have to wait for cooler weather.

When life gives you a lemon...

We bought a lemon tree back in the spring.

The blooms smelled so sweet.

Then these tiny lemons started to grow where the flowers had been.

This one has gotten really big.
But we don't know when to pick it.
We keep waiting for it to turn yellow
But it refused.
We thought it may be a lime.

This is my new hobby, watching lemons (or possibly limes) grow.

We waited and watched and then couldn't take it any more.

It smelled like a lemon. It just wasn't exactly ripe enough.

We are looking forward to sipping ice cold lemonade. I think we might end up with enough lemons for about 4 glasses.
